CORNELIUS RYERSON GENERATION #4
Of the five sons of Marten Ryerszen, the fifth son, Cornelius, was born in 1684 and married Sarah Jorise about 1701. It is believed that they had six children as were recorded on the old famuly bible in the Dutch language. Not much is known about Cornelius. It is believed that he resided in Jamacia, Long Island and attended the Dutch Church there. His name can be found on several documents of this church including the call to John Henry Goetschlus to be pastor of the church.
It is interesting to note that one of his descendants, George Ryerson (Cornelius-George- Cornelius- George) bought an old house from John Couzine. The house is said to have been Built in 1731 by Paulus Van Ende and passed through several generations of this family and others until it was acquired by George Ryerson in 1812. It was built of roughly cut stone, thickly coated with white wash and covered with a gambrel roof. The door and windows are in uneven aligement. The Frame wing belongs to the early 1800's
